accumulate, amass, collect, gather, heap, pile

這些動詞均含“積聚，聚集，積累”之意。

1）accumulate ：幾乎可用于指任何事物量的增加，側(cè)重連續(xù)不斷地，一點(diǎn)一滴地聚積。

eg: 1.Snow accumulated on the ground.（地上積了一層雪。）

????? 2.They set to work accumulating a huge mass of data.（他們已開始積累大量的資料。）

2）amass ：著重大量地積聚，尤指對如金錢、珠寶等有價(jià)值東西的大量積聚。

eg: They have amassed a fortune in just a few years.（他們在幾年的時(shí)間里就聚集了一筆財(cái)富。）

3）collect ：普通用詞，多用于指物，側(cè)重指有區(qū)別地作選擇或有安排有計(jì)劃地把零散物集中起來。

eg: A crowd soon collected at the scene of the accident. （群眾迅速聚集在事故現(xiàn)場。）

4）gather ：普通用詞，指人或物或抽象事物都可用。側(cè)重于圍繞一個中心的集合、聚集。

eg: 1.The crowd is gathering.人群正在聚集。）

5）heap ：主要指把沙、石、煤、草等堆高，不強(qiáng)調(diào)整齊。

eg: 1.Snow heaped against the fence. （雪靠著籬笆堆積起來。）

6）pile ：著重指比較整齊地把東西堆積在一起。

eg: 1.He piled a lot of logs.（他堆起許多木頭。）
