I'm afraid I can't stay.

I'm afraid I've got bad news for you.

你看了醫(yī)生,醫(yī)生認(rèn)為你病的不輕。他說(shuō),恐怕得臥床一周:

I'm afraid you have to stay in bed for a week.

你與同事之間產(chǎn)生了分歧。有一天你主動(dòng)和解,你說(shuō),恐怕有某種誤會(huì):

I'm afraid there's some sort of misunderstanding.

Most of us are afraid to eat snake. 多數(shù)人不敢吃蛇。(意味相當(dāng)于因害怕而不敢,不樂(lè)意做)

John is afraid of losing his job. John總是提心吊膽怕丟了飯碗。(擔(dān)心或憂慮某事發(fā)生)
