Now, our ______1______ doesn't have to be insiders' knowledge. Kids already do a lot of learning from adults, and we have a lot to share. I think that adults should start learning from kids.Now, I do most of my speaking in front of an education crowd, teachers and students, and I like this ___2___. It shouldn't just be a teacher at the head of the classroom telling students do this, do that. The students should teach their teachers.Learning between grown ups and kids should be reciprocal. The reality, unfortunately, is a little different, and it has a lot to do with trust, or _____3_____. Now, if you don't trust someone, you place restrictions on them, right. If I doubt my older sister's ability to pay back the 10 percent interest I established on her last loan, I'm going to ___4___ her ability to get more money from me until she pays it back. (Laughter) True story, by the way.Now, adults seem to have a prevalently restrictive attitude towards kids from every "don't do that", "don't do this" in the school handbook, to restrictions on school internet use. As history points out, regimes become oppressive when they're fearful about ______5______. And, although adults may not be quite at the level of totalitarian regimes, kids have no, or very little, say in making the rules, when really the attitude should be reciprocal, meaning that the adult population should learn and ________6________ the wishes of the younger population.
Now, what's even worse than restriction is that adults often _____7_____ kids abilities. We love challenges, but when expectations are low, trust me, we will sink to them. My own parents had anything but ________8________ for me and my sister. Okay, so they didn't tell us to become doctors or lawyers or anything like that, but my dad did read to us about Aristotle and ____9____ germ fighters when lots of other kids were hearing "The Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round". Well, we heard that one too, but "Pioneer Germ Fighters" totally rules. (Laughter)

于是，我們內(nèi)在的智慧沒必要為內(nèi)行人所認(rèn)可，孩子已經(jīng)從成年人那里學(xué)到了很多，我們有很多共同之處。我認(rèn)為成年人應(yīng)該開始向孩子們學(xué)習(xí)，現(xiàn)在我的演講主要是針對受過教育的群眾教師與學(xué)生，我想這樣打比方不應(yīng)該只是老師站在教師前面告訴學(xué)生干這樣干那樣，學(xué)生應(yīng)該教他們的老師成年人與孩子之間的學(xué)習(xí)應(yīng)該調(diào)換。而現(xiàn)實(shí)呢？很不幸，有所不同，這與信任或者說缺乏信任有很大關(guān)系。如果你不信任誰，您就對他施加約束對嗎？如果我懷疑我姐姐償還10%利息的能力，我會根據(jù)她上次借錢的情況不給她再從我這個拿錢的機(jī)會，除非她還錢，順便說下這是真事。在成年人中似乎盛行對孩子的約束姿態(tài)，從學(xué)生守則上的每一句“別這樣干”、“別那樣干”到學(xué)校internet的使用限制。如歷史所證，政權(quán)往往會在擔(dān)心難以實(shí)施控制時(shí)變得暴虐，盡管成年人不完全處于極權(quán)主義政權(quán)的水平，制定規(guī)則時(shí)孩子們沒有或者只有很少的發(fā)言權(quán)當(dāng)態(tài)度真的該調(diào)換時(shí)意味著成人應(yīng)該了解并考慮年輕人的意愿。
但比限制更糟糕的是成年人經(jīng)常低估孩子的能力，我們喜歡挑戰(zhàn)，但當(dāng)期望值很低時(shí)，相信我，我們會感到失望的。我父母對我和我姐姐除了低期望外什么都有。嗯，所以他們沒有讓我們從事醫(yī)生或律師或者類似的職業(yè)。但我爸爸確實(shí)給我們度過亞里士多德和《微生物先驅(qū)勇士》（兒童文學(xué)，1962年出版），當(dāng)其他很多孩子還在聽“巴士的輪兒轉(zhuǎn)呀轉(zhuǎn)”的時(shí)候。嗯，我們也聽過那首兒歌，但我們完全被《微生物先去勇士》統(tǒng)治了。
