8月12日，世博會迎來重慶館活動周。世博園將響起歷史悠久的“川江號子”。川江號子是川江船工們?yōu)榻y(tǒng)一動作和節(jié)奏，由號工領(lǐng)唱，眾船工幫腔、合唱的一種一領(lǐng)眾和式的民間歌唱形式。這種勞動號子，應(yīng)該也是很古老的一種民歌形式了吧。

A work song is a piece of music closely connected to a specific form of work, either sung while conducting a task (often to coordinate timing).
“號子”指一種與某樣工作緊密相關(guān)的小調(diào)，經(jīng)常是在指揮工作進(jìn)行的時候唱的，有時候唱號子是為了協(xié)調(diào)工作節(jié)奏。

“號子”的英語表達(dá)很簡單，work song，是民歌folk song的一種。提及有節(jié)奏的“勞動號子”，還會想起軍人們在跑步、訓(xùn)練時喊的那種同樣有節(jié)奏的調(diào)子，在英語中這個被稱為military cadence：

In the armed services, a military cadence or cadence call is a traditional call-and-response work song sung by military personnel while running or marching.

cadence意為“抑揚(yáng)頓挫、韻律”：the charming cadence of the Chinese language，中文的抑揚(yáng)頓挫。形容詞形式是cadent，也可以用cadenced來表示：

His recitation was cadenced and full of passion.
他的朗誦抑揚(yáng)頓挫，富有激情。
